Métis Art for Everyone
As an artist and educator I hope to inspire others to grow in their understanding and appreciation of our culture through tangible works and the story-telling that gives each piece life.
Meet the Artist
Hello, my name is Joelle Skinner and I am a proud Métis mother, teacher and artist living in Treaty 6 territory. My family has roots from Red River to Montana and across the Métis homeland. We have made home across the length of Alberta but the last four generations shared the same lands in treaty 8 where the Little Smoky River feeds a small oxbow lake and children learn to pick berries, fish and swim along its banks.
My beading and sewing passion started when I was a child learning from my great grandmothers who would share their many skills with me. These tangible connections have now become increasingly important to me as I raise my own family.
